The land reclamation work required to build the fish processing factory planned by the government in GDh. Fiyoaree has been awarded to a contractor.
This work was awarded under a contractor finance model at a special ceremony held by the government today to award several development projects related to the citizens. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu participated in this ceremony.
Two agreements related to fisheries were signed at this ceremony. One of these agreements is the contract for the land reclamation to establish the fish processing factory in GDh. Fiyoaree. The reclamation of 6.5 hectares of land and harbour works required to commence the fish factory project planned in GDh. Fiyoaree was awarded to a company named Sen International Private Limited. Further details regarding this agreement are not yet available.
The Fiyoaree fish factory is a new fish factory announced by the government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to further develop fisheries in the south and resolve the difficulties faced by fishermen in weighing their catch. The Fiyoaree fish factory is being developed to include a 100-ton per day canned fish processing capacity, a 3000-ton cold storage, a 100-ton fish meal plant, and a 50-ton ice plant.
It is expected that the Fiyoaree fish factory will enable fishermen to sell their catch at a reasonable price, create new job opportunities, and improve the social and economic condition of the island.
