Land designated for yellowfin tuna factory handed over to the Ministry

Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has officially handed over the land designated in Hulhumale' for the establishment of a yellowfin tuna factory to the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

At the handover ceremony held today at HDC, Managing Director Ali Zuhair signed on behalf of the corporation. State Minister Hussain Sham signed on behalf of the Finance Ministry, and Minister Ahmed Shiyam signed on behalf of the Fisheries Ministry.

HDC has allocated a 25,000 square foot plot of land adjacent to the yellowfin tuna jetty for the construction of the fish factory. A 35-tonne yellowfin tuna processing facility will be established on this land. The government has previously stated that the work on this factory, established under the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) fund, will be completed by next year.

The factory, established in Hulhumale' targeting those active in the yellowfin tuna fishery, will create an environment where small and medium enterprises or parties processing yellowfin tuna can pack their fish. Additionally, to resolve the current difficulties fishermen face in obtaining fuel from the yellowfin tuna jetty, it has been decided to keep a fuel stock at the factory. With the completion of this facility, it is expected that the biggest challenge currently faced by yellowfin tuna fishermen will be resolved.

This work is an important pledge among the promises made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to develop the fisheries industry.
