The Kumundhoo Council has begun efforts to assess the financial losses suffered by businessmen and residents of HDh. Kumundhoo following the sinking of the HDh. Neykurendhoo boat 'Nasru'.
The Kumundhoo Council stated that it wants to identify the financial losses incurred by the island's businessmen and residents due to the incident, and has opened the opportunity for those who wish to provide this information. The council has requested those who wish to share information to fill out the form via a link before Monday, October 20, 2025.
The council is collecting the damage information for a report being prepared by the council to be shared with the National Disaster Management Authority regarding the incident. The council stated that arranging compensation for the damages is a matter handled by the Disaster Management Authority.
The cargo boat 'Nasru', which was traveling from Male' to Lh. Naifaru, took on water and sank last Thursday. The vessel sank 3.3 nautical miles south of Lh. Aligaa. The five crew members traveling on the boat were taken aboard a Coast Guard harbor craft and transported to Naifaru. Two Maldivians and three foreigners were traveling on the boat. As some items from the vessel are drifting in the ocean, MNDF has urged those traveling in the area to be cautious.
