The Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Ahmed Shiyam, has stated that the work on the ice plant to be established in B. Kudarikilu will commence within the next two weeks and will be brought into operation within six months.
The Minister made these remarks while answering a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, during today's parliamentary session. The member inquired about the scheduled date to begin the practical work of establishing an ice plant in B. Kudarikilu, in relation to the promise made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu when he visited Kudarikilu and met with the island's residents on August 11, 2025.
In response, the Minister stated that the establishment of a 12-ton ice plant in Kudarikilu has been awarded to a private company and the contract has been signed. He added that assurances have been given that the contractor will mobilize to the island and begin work within the next two weeks. The Minister also noted that the work is expected to be completed and the ice plant brought into operation within the next six months.
According to the Minister, establishing an ice plant in Kudarikilu was a very special request made to the President by the island's fishermen. Furthermore, the Minister assured the member and the constituents that the promise made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to Kudarikilu on August 11, 2025, will be fulfilled to the letter.
