The project to develop the harbour in L. Kalaidhoo has been officially awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The agreement to award the Kalaidhoo harbour development project to MTCC was signed by the government and MTCC during a ceremony held to meet the residents of Kalaidhoo, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's tour of the inhabited islands in Haddhunmathi atoll.
Under this agreement, Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee signed on behalf of MTCC. Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, members of the Gan Council, and senior government officials attended the ceremony.
Under this project, the work will include dredging a 38,137 cubic meter area of the harbour basin, dredging a 10,728 cubic meter swimming area, dredging a 230,010 cubic meter channel, constructing a 312-meter quay wall, a 20-meter breakwater, a 99-meter outer sand-filled breakwater, a 72-meter inner sand-filled breakwater, a 64-meter groin, a 41-meter revetment, developing a 2,195 square meter pavement, and installing harbour lights.
This project was awarded to MTCC to be completed within 540 days for 74.95 million Rufiyaa.
The harbour in Kalaidhoo, which has a population of 1,072 people, is one of the most frequently used harbours by the residents of the atoll. However, the residents have been facing significant difficulties due to the lack of space in the existing harbour. With the completion of the harbour development project signed today, a spacious harbour with ample mooring space for vessels will be available, making it easier to load goods and to embark and disembark.
