The Japanese government has donated a patrol vessel to the Maldives Customs Service.
To strengthen the monitoring and surveillance of the Maldives' international ports, the Japanese government donated an 82-foot patrol vessel.
Japanese Government Donates Patrol Vessel to Customs
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan graced the ceremony held at the Customs Building on Thursday to donate the vessel and accepted it on behalf of the Maldives. The vessel was officially handed over by the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko.
This is a vessel donated under the Japanese government's "Economic Cooperation Grant Act" to strengthen the monitoring of Maldivian ports and surveillance work. The vessel is planned to be operated jointly by the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard and the Maldives Customs Service.
Training required to operate this vessel has been conducted in Japan and the Maldives. 23 Customs officers participated in these training programs.
