Indonesia's Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Suseno Sukoyono, has assured support to enhance the Maldives' capacity in the mariculture sector.
The Indonesian Minister of Fisheries and Marine Affairs gave this assurance during a meeting held with the Maldives' Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Shiyam, on the sidelines of the United Nations Ocean Conference currently underway in Nice, France.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed strengthening cooperation through the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
In his remarks, the Indonesian Fisheries Minister confirmed that the country will proceed in accordance with its promise to support the Maldives in building resources in the mariculture sector.
In this meeting, Minister Shiyam shared President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision to diversify the fisheries sector by developing special mariculture zones and encouraging foreign investment. Furthermore, the Minister invited Indonesian mariculture businesses to explore investment opportunities in the Maldives.
