Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has described India as a long-standing, close, and trusted partner in the development of the Maldives' fisheries sector.
Welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his state visit to the Maldives to participate in the official Independence Day celebrations, Minister Shiyam shared a message on X stating that India remains a close, trusted, and historic partner in developing the Maldives' fisheries sector. The Minister noted that this includes the establishment of fish processing facilities in the islands, as well as the development of ice plants and cold storages across various islands in the Maldives.
Highlighting that with India's generous financial assistance, these efforts pave the way for expanding local value addition, increasing quality and shelf life, and creating important opportunities for Maldivian fishing communities, the Minister stated that strong and respectful relations between countries can be maintained when they are based on principled policies and purposeful cooperation. Furthermore, the Minister stated that under the leadership of President Dr. Muizzu, this government is committed to a foreign policy that works with all partners in the best interest of the Maldivian people.
The Minister concluded his message by expressing gratitude for the enduring Maldives-India relationship and hoping to further expand bilateral cooperation with the objective of a sustainable and resilient ocean economy.
