Increasing the income of fishing families is one of the government's biggest goals: President

The President has stated that one of the government's biggest goals is to increase the income earned by fishing families.

He made this statement in a post shared on social media on the occasion of Fishermen's Day, which is being celebrated today.

In his post, the President stated that fishing has been intertwined with Maldivians since people first began living in the Maldives, and that from that day until today, the main diet of Maldivians has been seafood.

Highlighting the government's ongoing efforts to develop the fisheries sector, he said that one of the government's biggest goals is to further expand the fishing industry, increase production, and increase the income earned by fishing families. He also stated that maximizing the benefits of fishing to the national economy, further modernizing the sector, and facilitating opportunities for fishermen is also an objective.

He concluded his message by sending Fishermen's Day greetings to all individuals and families working in the sector.

On the occasion of Fishermen's Day, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also shared a message related to the day via social media. In her post, she praised the hard work, courage, and determination of Maldivian fishermen, and sent greetings and well wishes for Fishermen's Day.

December 10th of every year is celebrated as Fishermen's Day in the Maldives. This marks the 45th year of celebrating Fishermen's Day. This year's Fishermen's Day is being officially celebrated in R. Dhuvaafaru.
