President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the fish purchasing factory planned by the government in Ihavandhoo will be established at a standard that will bring progress to the entire northern region.
The President made these remarks while speaking at a ceremony held to meet the residents of Ihavandhoo during his visit to the island.
In his speech, the President said that the work on the island's ice plant will proceed, and it will be established on the broad scale desired by the region's residents, in a way that advances the fishing industry in the northern region.
"If we are to bring progress to the fishing industry in this region on a permanent basis, we will have to spend at least about ten million dollars, or around 150 million rufiyaa, on the establishment we are building. Therefore, there is two million rufiyaa in the budget," the President said.
The President also stated that they are currently looking into finding a way to carry out the work, even if it means dividing it over a long period through a contractor finance model.
"We are now looking to see if we can find a way to do that work by bringing in an investor, through investor finance, or as a contractor, by paying a contractor, through a contractor finance model, even if it is divided over a long period. So, I am mentioning this in such detail to give you assurance. God willing, a permanent solution to that issue, God willing, I just want to say that the project will start on a full scale this year," the President said.
The President said that he will make the dream of establishing a fish purchasing factory in Ihavandhoo a reality.
