President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that ice plants will be established in 14 islands across the Maldives and brought into operation within this year.
The President shared the latest updates on the government's efforts to provide ice to fishermen while delivering this year's Presidential Address.
In his speech, he noted that new ice plants have been established and services have commenced in GA. Dhaandhoo, Sh. Funadhoo, Dh. Meedhoo, and Bandidhoo. He stated that the ice plant projects in M. Veyvah and L. Maabaidhoo will, God willing, be completed and services will begin by the middle of this year.
Furthermore, he gave assurance that the construction of ice plants in HA. Dhidhdhoo, AA. Rasdhoo, GDh. Rathafandhoo, Kulhudhuffushi City, GA. Vilingili, GA. Nilandhoo, K. Gaafaru, Dh. Hulhudheli, Sh. Komandoo, Lh. Naifaru, L. Maavah, and L. Hithadhoo will be completed and services will commence within this year.
In the Presidential Address, the President stated that the biggest challenge facing the fishing industry is the lack of cold storage to store raw fish. Under the efforts to find a solution to this issue, cold storage establishment projects are currently underway in Thinadhoo City, Lh. Felivaru, M. Mulah, GA. Kooddoo, Addu Hulhudhoo, HA. Ihavandhoo, GDh. Fiyoaree, and F. Nilandhoo. The President assured that these projects will be completed and handed over within the next 15 months.
In the Presidential Address, the President also gave assurance that this government will remain steadfast in bringing brightness to the fishing industry by listening closely to the fishermen.
