Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to conduct a major beach and ocean cleanup event in Hulhumale.
This event, aimed at raising public awareness on environmental issues, combating climate change, and keeping Hulhumale's ocean clean, is scheduled to coincide with International World Cleanup Day, observed annually on September 20.
The initiative to remove trash from Hulhumale's beaches, clean the ocean, and protect marine life will begin on the morning of that day at the bridge area connecting the beaches of Hulhumale Phase One and Phase Two. HDC stated that the cleanup will cover the beach, the vegetation line, and the ocean.
In conjunction with this event, the "Mansa" program, aimed at raising environmental awareness, will be held that evening. Various NGOs, ministries, and state-owned enterprises will participate in this event.
HDC stated that it aims to expand this initiative, spearheaded by the corporation, to the entire Maldives next year.
HDC has been undertaking numerous efforts to make the environment of Hulhumale a pleasant place for its residents and visitors. As such, HDC stated that it plans to conduct many similar activities in the future for the benefit of the public, specifically to cultivate the good habit of cleaning and to keep the environment of Hulhumale clean.
