The government has taken over the HDh. Makunudhoo ice plant.
The Fisheries Ministry stated that the government has taken over the facility and begun work to bring it into operation. However, no further details were provided.
Government takes over Makunudhoo ice plant
This is an initiative started by the Ministry as part of the government's efforts to resolve the difficulties faced by northern fishermen in obtaining ice.
Included in President Yameen's presidential pledges, the government established the ice plant in HDh. Makunudhoo and began issuing ice to vessels in February 2018.
The ice plant in Makunudhoo, an island with extensive fishing activities, was established by contracting a company named Sea Treasures Maldives. At the time, the operation of the ice plant was also handed over to the company.
