Opportunities have been opened to participate in a committee formed to provide technical advice and guidance to the government on the fisheries sector.
An announcement issued by the President's Office yesterday revealed the decision to form a "Fisheries Sector Advisory Committee" to provide advice and consultation to the President and the government in sustainably advancing and developing the fisheries and mariculture industry in the Maldives, and shaping the future of the industry. The committee, consisting of a total of eleven members, is formed to represent skippers, fishermen, vessel owners, and academic/technical experts in fisheries and mariculture.

Among the responsibilities of the committee are providing advice and consultation on developing and strengthening the fisheries and mariculture sector, advising on changes needed in the Maldives' fisheries and mariculture industry in response to global changes in the industry, advising on new introductions to diversify the fisheries and mariculture sector, advising on the use of technology to advance innovation in the sector, advising on maintaining the quality of fisheries and mariculture products and establishing/strengthening quality assurance systems for those products, advising on establishing important infrastructure facilities for the development of the fisheries and mariculture industry, advising on facilitating investment opportunities in the Maldives' fisheries and mariculture industry, as well as providing advice and consultation on human resource development in the fisheries and mariculture sector, increasing the capacity of those working in the sector, and expanding the role of the community in the sector.
The opportunity to apply for membership in this committee was also opened yesterday. While the opportunity to submit applications for committee membership is open until 12:00 on Monday, 16 February 2026, membership forms will be accepted at the President's Office from 08:30 to 12:00 on days other than official public holidays. The application form for the membership position will be available from the reception of the President's Office. It can also be downloaded from the President's Office website.
