Robert "Fly" Navarro, an internationally recognized sports fishing expert and the founder of Fly Zone Fishing, has been appointed as the global ambassador to promote the Maldives as a sports fishing tourism destination.
Appointed by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Fly Navarro is a skilled angler with over 30 years of experience in the sports fishing industry, having traveled to six continents and participated in the world's most prestigious tournaments. In addition to being the founder of Fly Zone Fishing, he is a popular angler known for his work in expanding and strengthening the angler community through media and event production, serving as the co-creator of the "Blue Marlin World Cup," the only global blue marlin tournament. MMPRC stated that based on his experience, skills, and popularity, he is the most suitable personality to put the Maldives on the map of the most ideal fishing destinations among international anglers.
MMPRC stated that this partnership with Fly is an important step taken to increase interest in the Maldivian marine environment within the international sports fishing community and to boost the popularity of the Maldives as a sustainable fishing destination. Regarding this partnership, Fly said it is a great pleasure for him to help showcase the Maldivian environment to the whole world.

Under this ambassadorship, Navarro's first activity will be participating in the Burunuboma Global Fishing Tournament organized by Visit Maldives. This tournament is scheduled to be held from May 2 to May 4. In this tournament, anglers from around the world will engage in competitive fishing in Maldivian waters, targeting large game fish species such as marlin, yellowfin tuna, and sailfish. In addition to this tournament, further activities are planned with industry partners, utilizing Fly Navarro's experience and popularity to make the Maldives a sustainable marine tourism destination.
