Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has brought the ice plant it operates in Gadhdhoo back into operation and started issuing ice.
MIFCO stated that the ice plant was temporarily closed yesterday due to an unexpected delay in the delivery of a 4-day diesel stock procured from Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) to run the facility. To resolve the issue, 2,000 litres of fuel were purchased at a higher price, and the ice plant is now operational, with ice being issued starting from 02:00 PM.
According to MIFCO, the fuel stock ordered from FSM is expected to be received sometime tomorrow.
With fishing currently good and many vessels operating in Huvadhoo Atoll, there is no way to get ice from Kooddoo either. Therefore, fishermen say it is very important to have arrangements in place to get ice continuously from the Thinadhoo, Faresmaathodaa, and Gadhdhoo ice plants currently operating in Huvadhoo Atoll. The vessels have also requested that fuel be issued to them easily and without any controls.
