A foreign vessel has been intercepted while attempting to fish in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Maldives.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that the intercepted vessel was a foreign fishing boat operating illegally, and it has now been taken under the custody of the Coast Guard.
According to some media reports, the boat was captured last night east of HA. Kelaa, 13 miles inside the Maldivian EEZ. It was also reported that the vessel belongs to India.
