President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government's planned project to establish a fish purchasing factory in GDh. Fiyoaree will be awarded to a Chinese company next February.
He made this statement while addressing the residents of Fiyoaree last night, during his ongoing tour of some islands in Huvadhu Atoll.
The President stated that since fishing is the most important industry for Fiyoaree and Huvadhu Atoll as well, any development effort for Fiyoaree must prioritize the fishing industry. Accordingly, during the presidential campaign, he promised to build a fish factory in Fiyoaree. He said that through the efforts made to proceed with this promise, an agreement for the Fiyoaree fish factory project will be signed with a Chinese company in February, and practical work will begin within two months of signing.
"We are working to start the work in collaboration with a Chinese company. At the latest, the agreement will be signed in February, and the practical work of the factory will begin 2 months later. The result will be a major advancement for fishing in this atoll and this region especially." the President said.
The Fiyoaree fish factory is a newly announced fish factory by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government to further develop fishing in the south and solve the difficulties fishermen face in weighing their catch. The assessment of the area where the factory will be built and the identification of preparations needed to start the work were contracted to China's Dongfang company.
The Fiyoaree fish factory is being developed to include a canning capacity of 100 tonnes per day, a 3000-tonne cold storage, a 100-tonne fish meal plant, and a 50-tonne ice plant.
