Fishing Competition to be Held in Dhuvaafaru to Celebrate Fishermen's Day

The Fisheries Ministry has decided to hold a reef fishing competition as part of the activities carried out to celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day.

This fishing competition is scheduled to be held in R. Dhuvaafaru, the island designated by the government to host this year's Fishermen's Day celebrations. Titled 'Fishermen's Day Masrace 2025', the competition will take place on Friday, 12 December 2025.

The Fisheries Ministry has now opened the opportunity to participate in this competition, which is open to the islands of R. Atoll. Interested parties must complete the designated form and submit it to the Fisheries Ministry before 14:00 on 20 November 2025. The Ministry stated that the opportunity to participate will be given to the first 20 eligible teams that submit their application forms.

According to the announcement published by the Ministry regarding this event, teams can be formed with participants of both genders. The competition rules state that each team can have up to 13 members, including a manager, and these 13 members will not include the vessel's crew.

The tournament will award cash prizes to the top-ranking teams.

Tournament Rankings and Prizes:

• 1st Place Team: 15,000 Rufiyaa
• 2nd Place Team: 10,000 Rufiyaa
• 3rd Place Team: 7,000 Rufiyaa
• Heaviest Catch: 500 Rufiyaa
