President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the opinions and advice of those working in the fisheries sector are the most important in advancing the industry, and that no such opinions or advice will go to waste.
The President made these remarks while speaking at a meeting with fishermen this afternoon, as part of the activities being held in R. Dhuvaafaru to officially mark this year's Fishermen's Day.
A large number of individuals involved in the fisheries sector from all over the Maldives, as well as advocates for fishermen's rights, participated in this meeting and shared their opinions and advice on various matters related to the sector. They also shared their concerns with the President.
After listening to the opinions, advice, and concerns of those involved in the fisheries sector, the President addressed the attendees, assuring them that no opinion or advice shared would go to waste. He also stated that he would work positively to find solutions to the concerns raised, and noted that many efforts are already underway to advance the fisheries sector.
The President noted that the fisheries-related pledges included in his manifesto are being implemented in phases. He highlighted that some of these efforts have been ongoing since day one, while others are tied to the country's economic situation being ready for them. He also noted that there are projects being carried out with foreign assistance, as well as projects directly implemented by the Maldivian government.
Emphasizing that his desire is to revive and advance the fisheries sector, the President stated that he would share some happy news at the official Fishermen's Day ceremony tonight. He also assured that these are things that will be fulfilled with sincerity. In his speech, the President also noted that he wants the fisheries sector to advance in the truest sense.
Government ministers, heads of various institutions, and a large number of members involved in the sector in various capacities participated in the ceremony held in R. Dhuvaafaru for the President to meet with fishermen.
