Fisheries Ministry Assures Work on Makunudhoo Ice Plant Will Resume Very Soon

State Minister of the Fisheries Ministry Mohamed Muttalib has assured that the work on the HDh. Makunudhoo ice plant will resume very soon.

Muttalib gave this assurance during a meeting held with senior officials of the Makunudhoo Council at the Fisheries Ministry. In addition to Muttalib, State Minister of the Ministry Aminath Hussain Shareef and Parliament Member for the Makunudhoo constituency Adam Shafeeq also participated in the meeting.

The participants mainly discussed what could be done to resolve the challenges faced by the fishermen of HDh. Makunudhoo. Accordingly, one of the issues discussed was bringing the stalled ice plant on the island back into operation. Muttalib stated that efforts are underway to resolve the problems facing the Makunudhoo ice plant project. He also mentioned that they are working with relevant authorities to expedite the work on the ice plant, giving his assurance that the work will commence soon.

During the meeting, senior officials of the Makunudhoo Council highlighted important requirements for the island in the fisheries sector. Noting that the youth of Makunudhoo engage in recreational fishing, they requested the establishment of a trolling FAD in the area.

State Minister Mohamed Muttalib assured that attention will be given to all the matters proposed by the Makunudhoo Council. He also stated that he would work to find quick solutions to the issues highlighted by the council members.

The Fisheries Ministry holds a series of consultative meetings with various councils, at their request, to discuss the problems faced by fishermen from different islands and the ongoing efforts to further develop the fishing industry. While Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam participates in most of these meetings, those he is unable to attend are led by State Ministers Mohamed Muttalib and Aminath Hussain Shareef.
