Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has been scheduled to be summoned to tomorrow's parliamentary sitting.
The Minister is being summoned to Parliament tomorrow to answer a question submitted by the MDP member for the Maradhoo constituency, Ahmed Didi, regarding the Addu City Fisheries Complex.
In the question submitted to the Minister, Member Ahmed Didi requested clarification on when the work to expand the capacity of the Addu City Fisheries Complex will begin, noting that it is a pledge of this government and a highly anticipated development by fishermen.
The Fisheries Minister is scheduled to be summoned to Parliament at a time when fishermen are expressing concern on various platforms, alleging that the Minister has ignored the issue and failed to speak up for their rights, as it has been a month since MIFCO purchased fish from fishermen on credit without issuing payments. This also comes at a time when many vessels are unable to go fishing due to difficulties in obtaining fuel and ice, causing fishermen to endure significant hardships.
