The first executive committee of the "Keyolhunge Lobby" (Skippers' Lobby), a civil society organization established by skippers active in the Maldives fishing industry, has been elected.
In the election held last night, Mohamed Hassan (Maa-keyolhu) was elected as the Chairman of the committee. Shafqa Shafeeq (Keyolhage Dhiye) was elected as the President of the Lobby. Azwad Farooq (Keyolhu Azwad) was elected as the Vice President of the executive committee, while Mohamed Hassan was elected as the Secretary General.
The Skippers' Lobby is an NGO formed in December 2024 with the objective of advocating for the rights of fishermen and their families, specifically working to resolve difficulties and challenges in accessing services available to fishermen, and identifying and facilitating opportunities for fishermen in the fishing industry. The members of this organization include skippers, former skippers, bait fishers, vessel owners, fishermen, journalists, researchers, divers, and children of fishermen.
