The final seminar of the "Promotion of Blue Economy in Fisheries Sector of the Maldives" project, jointly conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Maldivian government, has been held.
The seminar, held today at Meeruma Hotel, was graced by the Minister of Fisheries Ahmed Shiyam and the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko. At this concluding seminar for the JICA/GCF project funded by Japan, details of the work carried out under the project were disclosed, and the benefits it brought to the Maldives' fisheries industry were highlighted. During the seminar, JICA officials, senior ministry officials, and participants at various levels of the project shared information and discussed ways to further improve the activities conducted under the project in the future.
Under this project, which was carried out under an agreement signed between the Japanese and Maldivian governments in 2014, three main activities were conducted. One of these was identifying ways to maintain fish quality, which is among the biggest challenges in yellowfin tuna fishing. Through this work, studies were conducted in Japan and the Maldives, and methods to maintain the quality of yellowfin tuna in the Maldives were identified.
