Filladhoo Council to Hold a Fishing Tournament to Mark Fishermen's Day

HA. Filladhoo Council has announced its decision to hold a fishing tournament to mark this year's Fishermen's Day.

The council stated that the fishing tournament, decided to be held under the name "Filladhoo Council Masrace 2024", will take place on Friday, 13 December 2024. The council said this is a fishing tournament decided to be held by the Filladhoo Council administration to mark this year's Fishermen's Day, with the aim of providing an opportunity to fish in a competitive spirit, and to foster friendship and unity.

The Filladhoo Council opened the opportunity to participate in this fishing tournament yesterday. While there is an opportunity to participate in this tournament by forming teams consisting of a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 10 people, if children under 18 years of age are interested in participating in the tournament, they can join a team by submitting a no-objection form from the child's legal guardian. The council stated that children under 13 years of age cannot be included in a team.

The fishing tournament is being held with cash prizes awarded to the winning teams. The council stated that teams will be ranked based on a point system according to the weight of the fish caught.

Rankings and prizes designated to be selected in the tournament:

• First place team – 5000 Rufiyaa

• Second place team – 3000 Rufiyaa

Third place team – 1500 Rufiyaa

Fisherman who catches the heaviest fish – 500 Rufiyaa

The council has requested parties wishing to participate in the fishing tournament to fill out the tournament participation form and submit it before 14:00 on 09 December 2024. The form to participate in the fishing tournament must be emailed to info@filladhoo.gov.mv.

The 10th of December every year has been marked as Fishermen's Day. Accordingly, this year marks the 44th Fishermen's Day. Many councils in the Maldives have now announced that they will hold fishing tournaments to mark Fishermen's Day. The Fisheries Ministry is also preparing to hold a reef fishing tournament in Male'.
