A Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) has been deployed off ADh. Vilingilivaru.
The Fisheries Ministry team established the FAD today, 6 miles southeast of the island. The FAD number is I09V02.
This is the second FAD established in ADh. Atoll. The other FAD is located 5.5 miles east of Mahibadhoo. That FAD was established in March of last year.
The main purpose of establishing these FADs is to further promote and sustainably develop fishing in the area, and to provide convenience for the atoll's fishermen, young fishermen active in the area, and those engaged in recreational fishing.
FADs established at a distance of between 3 and 6 miles around the islands are specially designed for trolling and sports fishing. The FAD is designed with a light visible from afar and a radar reflector to easily identify its location.
