FAD deployed off the coast of Sh. Neyo

A Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) has been deployed off the coast of Sh. Neyo.

The technical team of the Fisheries Ministry deployed this FAD today, 6 miles east of Neyo. The number of this newly established FAD is D09V04.

The location where this FAD is deployed is:

• 06°26.195’N

With the FAD deployed today, the number of FADs in the atoll has reached 5.

• 4.5 miles east of Funadhoo

FADs established at a distance of between 3 to 6 miles around the islands are specially designed for trolling and sports fishing. The FADs are designed with a light visible from afar and a radar reflector to easily identify the location of the FAD. The Maldives FAD network currently includes a total of 53 FADs. The Fisheries Ministry is working on deploying FADs in various regions of the Maldives in the future.

Under the government's fisheries development policy, FADs are deployed in various regions of the Maldives to facilitate fishermen, especially young fishermen and those involved in sports fishing, to further develop the fishery and help increase the income derived from it.
