The contractor of the B. Eydhafushi harbour development project, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), has stated that the project is progressing at a fast pace.
MTCC stated that the installation of the harbour's quay wall blocks is currently underway as part of the project. MTCC also noted that 87% of this work has now been completed.
The government awarded the B. Eydhafushi harbour development project to MTCC in June 2023, to be completed within 450 days. Under this 64.67 million Rufiyaa project, 28,304 cubic meters of the previously dredged lagoon will be re-dredged, and 3,354 cubic meters of the channel will be dredged. Additionally, the project requires constructing a 170-meter breakwater, a 383-meter revetment, and a 402-meter quay wall, along with installing mooring buoys and building an 11-meter long by 11-meter wide ramp. Furthermore, the project scope includes constructing an 18-meter long by 2-meter wide bridge, installing harbour lights, paving an 1,814 square meter area, and installing curbs along a 402-meter area.
Eydhafushi is an island where many people are actively engaged in pole-and-line fishing and reef fishing. Once this project is completed, there will be ample space to moor fishing vessels, providing significant convenience for fishermen using the harbour.
