Discussions held to resolve challenges faced by sea cucumber exporters

Minister Ahmed Shiyam and senior officials of the Ministry have held discussions with sea cucumber exporters in the Maldives to resolve the challenges they face.

In addition to Minister Ahmed Shiyam, State Minister Mohamed Muttalib, State Minister Aminath Hussain Shareef, and senior officials of the Ministry participated in the meeting held at the Ministry of Fisheries last Thursday.

The Ministry stated that the meeting held with individuals active in the sea cucumber fishery in the Maldives mainly focused on resolving difficulties in business transactions to facilitate easier procedures, and the robust implementation of the guidelines established for managing the sea cucumber fishery.

Furthermore, the Ministry stated that discussions were held regarding the challenges faced by sea cucumber fishers and the industry, and ideas were widely exchanged on the relationship between the fishery and the implementation of the international 'CITES' treaty, as well as the principles that could be followed.
