Extensive discussions have been held regarding expanding opportunities for Maldivian fish products in the UK market.
These discussions were held during a meeting at the Ministry yesterday between the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, and representatives from Sainsbury's and World Wise Foods.
The main focus of the meeting was the importance of eliminating tariff or import duty barriers to expand opportunities for Maldivian fish products in the UK market. The Fisheries Ministry stated that extensive discussions were also held on further strengthening cooperation between the two parties in providing sustainable Maldivian fisheries products to UK customers.
During the meeting, the Minister renewed the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and Sainsbury's, highlighting the importance the Maldives places on further strengthening trade relations to increase the benefits for Maldivian fishermen. In addition, the Maldives' efforts to promote fisheries under a reliable system that is sustainable and traceable, meeting global market standards, were highlighted at the meeting.
Senior officials of the Fisheries Ministry also participated in this meeting.
