Discussions have been held on ways to advance the fisheries industry.
These discussions took place during a meeting held by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam with the HA. Utheemu Council. The meeting, attended by senior officials of the Fisheries Ministry and the HA. Utheemu Council, was held yesterday at the Fisheries Ministry.
The Fisheries Ministry stated that during this meeting, discussions were held on the work that can be done in this sector to further advance the fisheries industry. Furthermore, broad discussions were held regarding the opportunities available in the mariculture sector.
During this meeting, the HA. Utheemu Council shared the challenges faced by fish product producers on the island. They also requested a swift resolution to the issue of the lost trolling FAD (Vadu Kandufathi) deployed near Baarah. The trolling FAD located 6 miles east of Baarah is the only trolling FAD in HA. Atoll.
The Fisheries Ministry has been working closely with atoll councils and island councils to resolve the issues faced by fishermen and the fisheries sector across various atolls. As such, the Minister and senior officials of the Ministry have been holding a series of discussions with councils regarding what can be done to resolve such issues. This was one such meeting organized and conducted as part of these efforts.
