Discussions have been held on how China can provide assistance to advance the Maldives' fisheries sector.
These discussions took place during a courtesy call paid by the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, to the Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Shiyam, yesterday.
During this meeting held at the Fisheries Ministry, discussions mainly focused on what can be done to develop the fisheries sector. In this regard, the two officials discussed increasing the use of advanced technology to advance the fishing industry and increasing expenditure on building resources.
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Kong assured that China will always be there to help develop the Maldives' fisheries sector. Furthermore, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of working together to fully implement the free trade agreement between the Maldives and China in order to increase the volume of Maldivian fish and fish products exported to China.
At this meeting, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam expressed confidence that during Ambassador Kong's tenure, relations between the Maldives and China will be further strengthened, bringing benefits to both countries.
