Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has met with the Haddhunmathi Atoll Council to discuss important issues related to fisheries in the atoll.
During the meeting held at the Fisheries Ministry yesterday, the Haddhunmathi Atoll Council shared information on the ongoing efforts to further improve the condition of fishermen in the atoll. The Ministry stated that extensive discussions were also held on additional collaborative work that could be done with the Ministry.
In this meeting, Minister Shiyam shared information with the council regarding the policies set by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government to expand economic activities utilizing fisheries and marine resources. Furthermore, the Ministry provided the council with information on ways to increase profits using fisheries and marine resources. The Ministry also stated that discussions were held on the importance of compiling a fishermen's registry and the benefits it would provide to fishermen.
L. Atoll has a large population that benefits from the fisheries industry. In addition to pole-and-line fishing and reef fishing, aquaculture business activities are also conducted on a large scale across various islands in the atoll.
