Extensive discussions have been held regarding the projects being carried out by the Fisheries Ministry with the assistance of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
According to the Fisheries Ministry, these discussions took place during a meeting held by Minister Ahmed Shiyam with the visiting SFD delegation. The Ministry stated that ideas were exchanged during this meeting on developing the infrastructure of the fisheries sector and additional projects that could be undertaken to increase the sector's capacity. In addition to the Minister, State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and senior officials of the Ministry participated in this important meeting.
During the SFD delegation's visit to the Maldives, they traveled to Kooddoo and observed the progress of the projects being carried out there with the fund's assistance. Senior officials of the Fisheries Ministry and MIFCO officials participated in the trip, reviewing the progress of the Kooddoo port development project and highlighting the ongoing efforts by SFD to support the advancement of fisheries infrastructure and the sustainable development of the Maldives.
Under the SFD, the establishment of a 500-tonne fish storage in M. Mulaku and a 4,000-tonne fish storage in Kooddoo was handed over to contractors in 2024, with work commenced to complete them in 2025. Furthermore, the expansion of the Kooddoo port and the project to establish ice plants in 5 islands are also proceeding with the assistance of the Saudi Fund.
