Discussions held on areas requiring IFAD assistance to develop the fisheries industry

Discussions have been held regarding the areas where assistance from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is needed to develop the fisheries industry.

These discussions took place during a meeting held today between the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, and the Country Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Sherina Tabassum.

During this meeting, Minister Shiyam expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by IFAD to develop the Maldives' fisheries sector. The Minister also shared President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision for developing the mariculture sector as part of his efforts to develop fisheries, as well as the work being done by the Ministry to develop mariculture.

Furthermore, during this meeting, Minister Shiyam highlighted the role of women in fish processing within small and medium enterprises, and shared the areas where they require assistance.

IFAD's Country Director Sherina Tabassum also expressed gratitude for the close relationship with the Maldivian government, according to the Fisheries Ministry.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources participated in this meeting.
