President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that diesel will be available at State Trading Organization (STO) rates in every atoll before the end of this year.
In his Presidential Address at the first sitting of the People's Majlis for this year, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu detailed his vision for expanding the fishing industry. He outlined various government projects aimed at developing the fishing industry and the opportunities the government is facilitating for fishermen. One of the most notable points was the project underway to resolve the issue of acquiring fuel, which is currently the biggest challenge facing fishermen. Highlighting this project, the President gave his assurance that diesel will be available at STO rates in every atoll before the end of this year.
"As I have promised, for the benefit of fishermen, vessel owners, and the general public, STO fuel skids will be established in every atoll before the end of this year, and diesel will begin to be sold at STO rates," President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.
Designating fuel as an essential service and arranging a convenient system for the general public to obtain petrol and diesel at STO rates in at least one island in every atoll of the Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. In accordance with this pledge, arrangements have been made for fishermen to obtain diesel at STO rates from FSM sites in Hulhumale, K. Himmafushi, GA. Kooddoo, Lh. Felivaru, and Addu City Hulhumeedhoo.
Under the efforts to arrange for fishermen and the general public to obtain fuel at affordable prices from all atolls of the Maldives, the State Trading Organization (STO) launched a special project to establish "fuel storage" on November 7 last year.
