The project to develop the harbour of GA. Dhevvadhoo has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
At the ceremony held today to award this project to MTCC, the agreement was signed on behalf of the company by its Deputy Managing Director, Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yousuf. On behalf of the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, it was signed by the Ministry's State Minister, Hassan Rasheed. The government awarded this project to MTCC to be completed within 630 days. This is a project worth 103.09 million Rufiyaa.
Under this project, MTCC stated that the work includes dredging a 60,672 cubic meter area of the lagoon, reclaiming a 95,194 cubic meter area with sand, constructing a 29-meter breakwater, and building a 407-meter quay wall. It also includes installing a 1,256-meter revetment, building a 20-meter long and 2-meter wide bridge, and constructing a 1,980 square meter pavement.
The people of GA. Dhevvadhoo, which has a population of 1,400, generally work in the fisheries sector. While there are 12 vessels engaged in tuna fishing on the island, the biggest challenge currently faced is the difficulty of finding space in the harbour. Due to the small size of the Dhevvadhoo harbour, the island council has stated that the harbour is completely full and congested when fishing vessels, cargo boats, speedboats, and dinghies are moored there.
With the completion of the Dhevvadhoo harbour development project signed today, it is expected that the island residents will get a spacious harbour, and the difficulties in embarking and disembarking will be resolved.
