The Fisheries Ministry has stated that the design of the fish factory to be built in GDh. Fiyoaree has been completed.
The Fisheries Ministry made this statement during a meeting held at the ministry yesterday with the Fiyoaree Council.
Design of Fiyoaree fish factory completed, preparations underway to begin practical work: Ministry
Minister Ahmed Shiyam, who participated in the meeting, stated that the design of the fish factory is now complete. He also noted that efforts are currently underway to commence the practical work.
It has been decided to build a 3,000 metric ton cold storage and a fish processing factory with a capacity of 100 tons per day in Fiyoaree. The work for the factory was awarded to China's Dongfang company on April 14, 2024. The Fisheries Ministry stated that a technical team from the company visited the island on June 27 of this year to prepare the technical proposal required for building the fish factory.
The project to establish a fish factory in GDh. Fiyoaree is a government initiative aimed at further developing fisheries in the south and resolving the difficulties faced by fishermen in weighing their catch. In addition to Fiyoaree, it has also been decided to develop fish factories in F. Nilandhoo and Lh. Felivaru.
