Deadline to submit nominations for Fishermen's Day awards expires tomorrow!

The deadline given by the Fisheries Ministry to submit nominations for the awards to be presented at this year's Fishermen's Day celebration will expire tomorrow.

The Fisheries Ministry opened the opportunity to submit nominations for the awards on October 9. The Fisheries Ministry stated that the deadline for accepting applications for the awards is November 21, 2024. Therefore, tomorrow is the last day to apply for the awards.

The Ministry has opened applications for the most dedicated young skipper (under 35 years) who is currently actively engaged in fishing and does not do any other work to earn an income, the most experienced skipper (over 35 years) who is currently actively engaged in fishing and does not do any other work to earn an income, and the dedicated reef fisherman whose main source of income is reef fishing. The Ministry said that individuals can apply for these awards on their own behalf or be nominated by another party.

The Ministry has requested that eligible parties wishing to apply for these awards complete the designated form and send it to the Ministry's email address fisheriesmanagement@fisheries.gov.mv before the given deadline. The two forms prepared for submitting award applications can be downloaded from the Ministry's website www.fisheries.gov.mv.

Although it was previously decided to hold the official celebrations of this year's Fishermen's Day in B. Thulhaadhoo, the government has now arranged to hold the official Fishermen's Day activities in Male' City. The Ministry stated that this decision was made to implement the government's cost-cutting policy.

Since 1989, December 10 of every year has been celebrated in the Maldives as Fishermen's Day. Accordingly, this year marks the 44th Fishermen's Day.
