The registration window for the training program planned by the Fisheries Ministry to generate interest among youth and introduce them to the fisheries sector will expire today.
Conducted with the assistance of the World Bank under the Transforming Fisheries Sector in the South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project, this training program aims to generate interest in fisheries among youth and provide them with the opportunity to acquire relevant training and skills to enter the fisheries and related sectors.
The Ministry initially opened the opportunity to participate in this program from August 16 to August 27. Subsequently, the opportunity was reopened on September 2. The latest deadline will expire at 14:00 today.
This three-month training program is open to 5 youths who wish to newly enter the fisheries sector. During the training program, participants will be provided with a daily allowance.
The Fisheries Ministry previously stated that in addition to providing technical information on fisheries, participants will get the opportunity to practically engage in fishing. As such, participants will receive practical training and skills on how to fish from some of the most experienced captains in the Maldives, aboard one of the most notable pole-and-line skipjack tuna fishing vessels.
