Customs Requests Exporters to Obtain Certificate of Origin for China Exports via Portal

Under the Free Trade Agreement between the Maldives and China, it has been arranged that the Certificate of Origin required for goods exported to China must be submitted via the Customs Portal.

Maldives Customs Service stated that starting this coming Friday, requests for the Certificate of Origin for goods exported from the Maldives to China should be submitted through the Customs Portal.

To obtain the Certificate of Origin, after logging into the Customs portal, select "Request" from the menu, and apply for the service through "Certificate Request". Customs stated that once the certificate is approved, it will be visible on the Customs Portal. Customs also mentioned that payments for the certificate can be made through the portal.

The Maldives signed a Free Trade Agreement with China in 2014. Furthermore, this agreement came into effect on January 1 of this year. Under this agreement, fish and seafood products can be exported to the Chinese market at a zero tariff rate. The Ministry of Economic Development previously stated that this will increase the Maldives' fish exports, pave the way for processing fish products, improve export quality, and ensure a better price for fish exported from the Maldives.
