Current Government Pays Total of 787 Million Rufiyaa to Fishermen

Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has stated that the current government has paid 787 million Rufiyaa to fishermen so far.

In a message shared on Twitter announcing the clearance of the "backlog" of payments for fish purchased by MIFCO from fishermen, the Minister stated that the backlog of over 250 million Rufiyaa owed to fishermen when this government took office has now been completely cleared. Furthermore, as promised by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, all pending payments before the month of Ramadan have been settled, bringing the total amount paid by this government to fishermen to 787 million Rufiyaa.

On Sunday, MIFCO disbursed payments for fish weighed by fishermen up until Friday.

Paying fishermen within 48 hours of weighing their catch is a presidential pledge of Dr. Muizzu. Although this cannot be implemented exactly as promised right now due to the current financial difficulties faced by the government, the government has previously stated that once the fishermen's backlog is cleared, efforts will be made to achieve that goal.
