The Ministry of Fisheries has announced a search for a contractor to complete the unfinished work on the ice plant being established by the government in L. Maabaidhoo.
Under the project to establish an ice plant in L. Maabaidhoo, the development of a 25-tonne ice plant with a 50-tonne storage capacity was awarded to Fenaka Corporation Limited on 19 February 2023, to be completed within 6 months. Although it was agreed at the time that Fenaka Corporation Limited would operate the facility in addition to establishing the ice plant, Fenaka abandoned the work without completing it.
The Ministry of Fisheries announced today that it is seeking a party to complete the unfinished work left by Fenaka under the Maabaidhoo ice plant project. The bid document attached to the announcement published in the Maldivian Government Gazette details the extent of the work completed under the project. It states that the foundation of the office building has been completed, and while excavation for the boundary wall had begun, the work was not fully completed. The document also notes that an ice-making machine, a cooling unit (ice bin), a condenser pump, and some materials used for the work are currently at the ice plant site. Furthermore, the bid document highlights that materials required for the civil works of the ice plant are not currently available at the site. Therefore, the contractor will need to procure the necessary materials and equipment to complete the work.
An information session for parties interested in completing the unfinished work is scheduled to be held at the Ministry of Fisheries at 10:00 am next Sunday. The Ministry stated that arrangements have been made for parties unable to attend the meeting to clarify information by calling the Ministry's number, 3322625.
The deadline for submitting estimates for this work is 12:00 pm on Thursday, 21 August 2025. The Ministry of Fisheries stated that estimates submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
