The Maldives National University (MNU) has announced it is seeking a contractor to construct the boundary wall for the Fisheries Faculty being established in GA. Kolamaafushi.
The Fisheries Faculty is being established as an outreach centre of MNU's Fisheries College. The 15,000 square foot plot of land allocated by the Kolamaafushi Council to build this faculty was handed over to MNU in February this year.
MNU has now opened the opportunity for all interested parties to submit bids for the construction of the Fisheries Faculty boundary wall. MNU stated that only parties registered as micro, small, and medium enterprises at the Ministry of Economic Development can participate in the bidding.
MNU held a pre-bid meeting yesterday and shared information regarding the bid. MNU stated that bid submission will take place at 10:30 am on 19 May 2025 at the administrative centre of the Maldives National University. MNU noted that parties who do not attend to submit their bids at the designated time will not be given the opportunity to submit bids.
The Fisheries Faculty being established in GA. Kolamaafushi is an important centre being developed to advance fisheries education, research, and sustainable marine development. MNU has previously stated that opportunities will be opened there for researchers in the fields of fisheries, marine, and environment, which will bring economic, social, and environmental progress.
Huvadhu Atoll, to which GA. Kolamaafushi belongs, is the centre of pole-and-line fishing in the Maldives. The establishment of this centre in the region will be a good opportunity for many people interested in this field to get the chance to conduct research in fisheries, marine, and environment, and gain practical experience. Furthermore, this is a project that will bring significant progress to the fisheries sector for the atoll and the entire Maldives.
