President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a project to develop a new harbour in GDh. Nadella, stating that a contractor will be sought this month.
The President made the remarks while speaking at a meeting with the residents of Nadella this afternoon, during his ongoing tour of some islands in Huvadhu Atoll.
In his speech, the President assured that the needs of the residents for the development of Nadella will be fulfilled with great care. He stated that among these needs, the highest priority at this time will be given to resolving the harbour issue. In this regard, he assured that a contractor will be sought and the work will be awarded as soon as possible, and the practical work of the project will commence and proceed according to the wishes of the Nadella residents.
"The small harbour built in 2008 is now, in any case, when looking at the island's development, not a usable harbour at all. Therefore, I want to say that this month, in this month of January, God willing, I will announce the construction of a new harbour as you desire. To find a contractor," President Dr. Muizzu said, addressing the residents of Nadella.
The President stated that from the currently approved budget, the highest priority among the requests made by the residents of Nadella will be given to building a new harbour on the island. He added that the project will be carried out in a way that also provides an adequate solution to the island's coastal erosion and tidal swell issues. He further stated that resolving these two issues will alleviate the concerns of the island's residents, bring them peace of mind, and pave the way for many things for the island's development.
The President decided to develop a new harbour in Nadella following requests from the island council and residents to build a new harbour to resolve the difficulties faced in docking vessels and embarking/disembarking due to the space constraints of the harbour currently in use in Nadella.
