The work of establishing an ice plant and ice storage facility in Sh. Komandoo has been awarded to Athion Private Limited.
The agreement for this project was signed on behalf of the government by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam. Executive Director Kiyashath Abdulla signed on behalf of Athion Private Limited.
A 30-tonne ice plant and a 50-tonne ice storage facility will be established in Sh. Komandoo.
The signing of the agreement to award the Komandoo ice plant project to Athion Private Limited took place during a ceremony held to meet the residents of Komandoo, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing tour of the islands in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll. Speaking at the ceremony, the President assured that the establishment of the ice plant and cold storage facility will be completed successfully and swiftly. He stated that such projects are being carried out to revive the fishing industry. The President noted that each of these initiatives will bring significant ease to fishermen in multiple ways.
The government has previously announced its target to complete the ice plants being established across various islands in the Maldives within the next two years.
