The types and quantities of fish caught are the main information used to understand the changes occurring in the fish population due to fishing, calculate the population size, and ensure that the fishery is conducted at a sustainable level without harming the population. The most important role in collecting fishery statistics is played by the fishing logbook or fish report. The fish report is a system that provides information on the species caught and the effort spent to catch them after completing each fishing trip, to the parties planning, operating, and managing the fishery. In addition, further information such as bait fishing, the amount of fuel spent on fishing, and the areas where fish were caught can also be collected through the logbook.
Furthermore, various information is also collected from producers of fish and fish products, and regarding the trade of such products. All this information is used to plan, manage, and oversee the fishery in order to fish sustainably and ensure the benefits of the fishery are obtained permanently.
In this regard, a robust system will be established to collect information on reef fishing and the reef fishing trade, and the following parties will be required to send information to the Ministry.
