The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard ship "Huravee" has been taken to India for repairs.
The Indian High Commission in the Maldives stated that the Coast Guard ship "Huravee", gifted by India in 2023, was taken to India for repairs and docked at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai yesterday. During this trip, in addition to repairs, the ship is scheduled to be upgraded to increase its capabilities, with the work estimated to cost four million dollars. This expense will be covered by the Indian government.
On its journey to India, "Huravee" was escorted by the Indian Navy ship Talwar. The ship was officially received by the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard, Ankur Sharma. It was handed over by the Commanding Officer of Huravee, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Shiyam.
The Maldives is India's primary maritime neighbor. Under the Indian government's "Neighborhood First Policy" and "Vision SAGAR", India maintains close strategic and military relations with the Maldives.
The largest vessel of the Maldivian maritime military previously used as Coast Guard "Huravee" was also a vessel gifted by India in 2006. India had also repaired that vessel on 6 different occasions. The Coast Guard ship "Kaamiyaabu" is also a vessel gifted by India in 2019.
