The MNDF Coast Guard has begun operations after a boat travelling from Male' to Lh. Naifaru experienced engine failure.
MNDF stated that the engine of the boat named "Lifeline", which was travelling from Male' to Lh. Naifaru, stopped east of Kaashidhoo. Following this incident, the MNDF Northern Area Command, Coast Guard First Squadron is operating to transport the women and children on the boat to Naifaru. MNDF stated that two harbour craft launches of the MNDF Coast Guard First Squadron and a Gulf Craft launch of the Coast Guard are operating to transport the people on this boat, which was travelling with 40 people, to Naifaru.
MNDF stated that the report of this incident was received around 08:15 this morning.
As the National Meteorological Centre has forecast rain and bad weather across various parts of the Maldives over the next two days, MNDF has advised seafarers to be cautious of the weather. In this regard, they have advised against making sea journeys other than essential ones, and for those who must travel to pay special attention to the weather. Furthermore, they have appealed not to travel at night, to postpone journeys until the weather improves if conditions do not permit, and to avoid travelling when the National Meteorological Centre has issued a Yellow or Orange alert.
Forecasting the weather for the Maldives, the National Meteorological Centre stated that the southwest monsoon will intensify, bringing rain to various parts of the Maldives, heavy rain with thunderstorms to some islands, strong winds during squalls, and rough seas. Therefore, the authority has appealed to all parties to be cautious of the weather.
