Coast Guard begins diving course with military personnel from 4 foreign countries

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has commenced the 13th Coast Guard Basic Diving Course.

Six military personnel from four additional countries are participating in this three-month course conducted by the MNDF in accordance with international standards. They are military personnel from the armed forces of Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

A special ceremony was held yesterday at the Bandaarakoshi Auditorium to inaugurate this course, which is being conducted at the MNDF Northern Area Command in Lh. Maafilaafushi. The ceremony was graced by the Commandant of the MNDF Coast Guard, Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem. At the ceremony, the oath for the course instructors was administered by the Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Training School, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Shiyam. The oath for the students was administered by the Course Officer of the 13th Coast Guard Basic Diving Course, Captain Abdulla Shahid.

According to the MNDF, the modules to be taught in this course, which is proceeding with 18 participants, include the history of diving, physics and physiology of diving, how to use dive equipment and accessories in diving operations, diving communication and the use of dive tables, diving safety and diving search patterns, physical training, swimming and diving skills, diving first aid, mission planning, as well as training on rescuing vessels in distress.
